The price of gold was lower in New York on Tuesday as the dollar made gains in relation to the euro and the price of oil declined, but not before setting another record when it hit $916.10 per troy ounce.
By the close of floor traded in New York, February gold was down 90 cents to $902.50 per troy ounce.
March silver was lower as well, down 12 cents to $16.31 per troy ounce after dropping as much as 22 cents earlier in the session.
The declines for precious metals prices was not unanimous, however.
April platinum added $1.50 to $1,585.50 per troy ounce.
