Precious metals prices were mixed Monday as New York markets closed early for Christmas Eve.
February gold added $1.10 to $816.50 per troy ounce after going as high as $819.70 earlier in electronic trade.
March silver was also higher, up 17 cents to $14.66 per troy ounce, while March palladium was $2.25 higher to $363.40 per troy ounce.
January platinum, however, dropped $9.50 to $1,526.80 per troy ounce.
Among base metals, copper gained 5.6 cents to $3.15 per pound in New York on signs of increased demand in China and a decline of 100 tonnes to 198,225 tonnes in London Metal Exchange inventories.
The LME was closed all day and will remain closed until Thursday for the holidays, while the New York Mercantile Exchange will close for Christmas tomorrow and return to regular trading hours on Wednesday.
