Precious metals prices were mixed in New York on Monday.
December gold was $8.70 higher to $762.50 per troy ounce after the euro gained on the US dollar again and as crude oil hit another new record high in New York.
Gold has traditionally been seen as a safe place to put money when investors are worried about inflation or when the dollar is seen to weaken.
January platinum, meanwhile, added $9.20 to $1,426 per troy ounce.
Silver for December delivery was up early, but later traded at $13.86 per troy ounce, a decline of 4 cents.
