Silver, platinum both lower

Precious metals prices were mixed in New York on Monday.
December gold added $2.50 to $712.20 per troy ounce as the US dollar remained weak.
December silver, however, was 6 cents lower to $12.70 per troy ounce, while October platinum fell $1 to $1,294 per troy ounce.
Among base metals, copper remained virtually unchanged in New York with December contracts trading at $3.26 per pound after going as low as $3.22 per pound in early trade, while London three-month copper dropped 0.3 percent to $7,155 per tonne.
Zinc was 2.9 percent lower on the London Metal Exchange to $2,695 per tonne on the news that China will raise production capacity this year and next.
Aluminium fell $24 to $2,423 per tonne, while lead held steady at $2,875 per tonne and tin added $100 to $14,700 per tonne.
