by Elaine Frei

Metals prices were mixed again Tuesday.
Among precious metals, December gold was 30 cents lower to $666.20 per troy ounce in New York and December silver dropped 23 cents to $11.67 per troy ounce as the dollar made back early losses on the euro.
On the other hand, October platinum added $4.00 to $1,251.40 per troy ounce on continuing fears that demand could decline.
Among base metals, December copper was down less than 1 cent to $3.16 per pound in midday trade in New York, while on the London Metal Exchange it dropped 0.5 percent to $6,960 per tonne after LME stockpiles added 1,275 tonnes.
Meanwhile, tin added 0.4 percent to $14,050 per tonne in London, while nickel was up 3.6 percent to $27,199 per tonne. Lead and aluminium both traded even, at $2,895 per tonne and $2,483 per tonne respectively, while zinc fell 1.7 percent to $3,010 per tonne.
