Prices for precious metals were higher in New York on Friday as the US dollar again lost ground to the euro.
August gold added $6.60 to $684.70 per troy ounce after having gone as high as $687.50 earlier.
Gold added 2.6 percent during the week as the dollar continued to weaken on concerns that the troubles in the subprime mortgage sector will leak over into other sectors and put a damper on economic growth.
September silver was 3 cents higher to $13.40 per troy ounce, for a gain of 2.2 percent over the week.
Meanwhile, October platinum gained $8.10 to trade at $1,346.60 per troy ounce.
