Prices for precious metals were higher on Thursday in New York.
August gold added $6.20 to $668.30, its highest closing level since early June.
Analysts said that investors are interested in gold because it looks as if US interest rates will hold steady for the rest of the year and because the dollar is likely to decline further as the euro hit another all-time high against the greenback during the session.
Higher oil prices are also said to be a factor in the advance of gold prices.
September silver was also higher, adding 21 cents to $13.18
October platinum, meanwhile, was $14.60 higher to trade at $1,330.70.
