Prices for precious metals were lower in New York on Tuesday. August gold closed out the session to trade at $655.50 per troy ounce, a decline of $3.80.
Gold to be delivered immediately dropped the same amount to trade at $653.45 per troy ounce in London.
September silver was also lower in New York, dropping 6 cents to $12.69 per troy ounce, while October platinum was 90 cents lower to $1,294.20.
On the other hand, copper was higher in New York, adding 2 cents to $3.55 per pound. The gain came on worries that a strike at a state-owned copper mine in Chile will get worse, further tightening the market.
Trade was light on the day ahead of US market closures Wednesday in celebration of the Independence Day holiday.
