Gold futures were $8.30 higher in New York on Monday as investors looked for safe places to put their money after recent terrorist activity in the UK.
In addition, higher crude oil prices helped drive the price of gold higher while the dollar declined on global currencies markets.
August gold traded at $659.20 per troy ounce by the end of the session. September silver was also higher, adding 27 cents to $12.74 per troy ounce, while October platinum gained $8.60 to $1,295.10 per troy ounce.
Among base metals, meanwhile, September copper in New York added 8 cents to trade at $3.53 per pound.
