Precious metals prices were mixed in early afternoon trade in New York on Friday.
August gold was 50 cents higher to $650.90 per troy ounce, while October platinum had also added 50 cents to $1,286.50 per troy ounce.

Metals prices retreated on Tuesday. Gold was down 1.1 percent to $644.20 per troy ounce on technical selling prompted by concerns over interest rates. Platinum dropped 2.1 percent to $1,265 per troy ounce on lack of information on progress to avert a possible strike in South Africa.

Base metals prices were mixed this week. Lead added 6.9 percent during the week to trade at $2,540 per tonne on Friday. Prices for lead prices were pushed up by declining inventories. There were also worries about Chinese supplies.

Metals prices were mostly lower on Thursday. The exception was nickel, which added 1.9 percent in London to trade at $37,200 per tonne. Metals prices were mixed this week. Most base metals higher on the week, but nickel declined by 0.9 percent.
Zinc gained 2.9 percent during the week to $3,745 per tonne on declining inventories. Meanwhile, copper added 4.9 percent to $7,510 per tonne.

Metals prices were higher on Thursday. Among base metals, copper and nickel were both gained in London. Copper added 2 percent to $7,315 per tonne after London Metal Exchange inventories dropped by 800 tonnes. Nickel, meanwhile, was 4.6 percent higher to trade at $41,850 per tonne.
