Base metals prices reach records on week
by Brian Turner

The price for three-month copper was up by nearly $200 on Friday, to $6,325 per tonne, only $10 below its price at the start of the year. It has risen 16 percent since it a 10-month low earlier this month, and added 8 percent over the week.
Other base metals prices were also higher. Nickel set a new record Friday, rising to $40,900 per tonne. Lead set a new record as well, rising 7 percent during the week to $1,935 on Friday. Uranium added $10 during the week, hitting $85 per pound at one point during the week. The gains for uranium come as demand rises as a consequence of talk about building new nuclear power facilities at a time when supply is limited because no new mines have opened recently.
