In metals markets on Tuesday, precious metals prices were lower. Gold followed the price of crude oil, dropping $3 by late afternoon in London to trade around $657.80/$658.14 per troy ounce. Silver and platinum followed gold lower in turn.
Base metals prices were mixed on the day. Three-month tin traded at $13,500 per tonne, with the price the highest it has been since the mid-1980s. Nickel was also higher, adding $1,100 to $39,900 per tonne. On the other hand, three-month aluminium dropped $40 to $2,740 per tonne, while copper was $95 lower to $5,710 per tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
