Gold values fall in wake of oil prices

Gold futures were lower in New York on Tuesday as funds sold due to strength in the dollar and falling oil prices. Expiration of options increased price volatility. Trade was heavy at an estimated 85,000 contracts on the day.

The price of gold on US markets reached a 17-year high on Friday morning as December gold futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange’s COMEX index gained $2.40 to $461.70 per troy ounce in early trade after having gone as high as $464 per troy ounce in the opening few minutes of trade.

China sells 1.528 billion dollars of copper

Chile, which is the world’s largest exporter of copper, sold $1.528 billion worth of the metal to the rest of the world in August, an increase of 13 percent over the same month last year. Some of the increase is accounted for by higher prices for the metal.
