Gold reached a 3-month peak of $442.10 per troy ounce at one point on Thursday and was trading at around $441.50 late in the day in London.
That was about $4 higher than its Wednesday afternoon price in New York.
Three-month copper was down $48 on the London Metals Exchange to $3,310. LME stockpiles dropped a further 375 tonnes to 32,675 tonnes.
Three-month nickel declined by $705 to $14,750 per tonne, a four-month low, and aluminium was also down, by $37 to $1,743.
